The Retail Index: Q4 2020

Signals of improvement in leasing market although operating conditions still difficult

February 24, 2021

Highlights from the report include:

  • Retail rents for the most premium locations in shopping centres continued to face downward pressure in 4Q20 although there were some signs of stabilisation.
  • Improvements in footfalls and retail sales across the region are expected to help drive a recovery in leasing demand looking forward, and vaccinations along with the gradual lifting of social-distancing restrictions may help lend support to businesses looking to expand and open new stores.
