October 30, 2019

SINGAPORE, 30 October 2019 – JLL Hotels & Hospitality has received the Transaction of the Year Award for the sale of the Intercontinental Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort in Koh Samui, Thailand, while Daniel Yip, Senior Vice President of JLL Hotels & Hospitality Advisory, clinched the Rising Star Award at the Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific (HICAP) held in Hong Kong last week.

“It’s a real honour to be recognised for the great work our team has done,” says Mike Batchelor, CEO, JLL Hotels & Hospitality Asia Pacific. “This underscores our commitment to putting our clients first and the importance of adding enduring value to their investments, particularly at a time when they’re faced with geopolitical uncertainty and increasing pressure to deploy capital.”

In 2018, the Intercontinental Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort resort was sold with the benefit of management from InterContinental Hotels Group. The purchaser was a Thai high net worth family, marking their first acquisition in the hotels industry. The resort, considered one of the first luxury hotels on Samui, achieved the highest price for a hotel traded outside of Bangkok. JLL Hotels & Hospitality advised in the transaction on behalf of the seller, Serenity Asset Company Limited.

Meanwhile, the global real estate consultancy went on to score a second win at HICAP, with Daniel Yip receiving The Rising Star of the Year award. Introduced in 2014, the award recognises dynamic young achievers under the age of 35 who demonstrate exceptional ability, vision and drive in the hospitality real estate industry.

Mr Batchelor adds: “We couldn’t be prouder of Daniel and his contributions to our team. Throughout his career at JLL, he has built valuable relationships with our clients and established himself as a trusted advisor by his peers and the wider hotel industry. I’m confident that he will continue to bring great success to the team.”

As the head of operator selections in the region as well as a member of the firm’s advisory team, Mr Yip has a successful advisory and operator selection track record spanning budget to luxury hotels and resorts across Asia. He has been a key member in the growth of asset management within JLL and has been involved in spot reviews, pre-openings and operational asset management for over 20 hotels and resorts.

Prior to joining JLL, Daniel trained as a lawyer and specialised in hotel management agreements and sale and purchase agreements. Daniel is currently the Vice President of the Hotel Asset Managers Association (Asia Pacific Chapter).

JLL’s global hotels and hospitality advisory team spans 350 specialists in 23 countries.
