John Gates oversees Brokerage, Project & Development Services and Property Management businesses across the Americas. Based in Dallas, he leads the integration of all regional activities, setting the strategic vision for the Americas Markets and driving innovations that enhance client service.
With nearly three decades of experience in commercial real estate, John has built a distinguished career marked by leadership and industry expertise. His career began at the The Staubach Company in 1990, where he quickly established himself as a top broker in Dallas before advancing into several leadership roles, including President and Chief Operating Officer.
Following JLL’s acquisition of Staubach in 2008, John took on a series of senior leadership positions within the firm. In 2014, he became CEO of Markets for the U.S., later expanding his leadership to include Canada in 2019 and Latin America in 2020. His extensive experience and strategic leadership continue to strengthen JLL’s presence throughout the Americas.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John is actively involved in the Dallas community. He was appointed to the Dallas Housing Authority’s board by the mayor in 2009, serving until 2014 and is a member of the Dallas Citizens Council. He also serves on the Executive Council for the Real Estate Finance and Investment Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
John and his wife have two daughters, three grandsons and one granddaughter. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, fishing and hunting. He is also deeply engaged in the Dallas Catholic community.
He holds an MBA in finance from the University of Texas at Austin.
